The Advice Engine also provides suggestions or advice when users choose options that are not incorrect, but appear logically inconsistent.

The following types of suggestions and recommendations are supported by the Factory Advice Engine:

• Dependencies — Identify and manage both run-time and build-time dependencies
• Package Advice — Based upon mining development data and combinations across thousands of successfully built projects using Timesys Factory, the Advice Engine is capable of making Amazon-like recommendations such as:
  • 90% of users who chose "Industrial Controller" included the package mindcontrol.
  • busybox is a Timesys Core recommendation (i.e., every project should have this).
  • X has been shown to perform better if the following packages are also included: %s... Would you like to include them?
  • boa is smaller than apache
• Conflicts — The Advice Engine alerts you if the selections made by you are incorrect or inconsistent. For example:
  • Packages bash and busybox cannot be built in the same RFS. Choose one or the other.
  • Packages apache2 and thttpd can be built in the same RFS, but both provide the same service. Are you sure you want both?
  • Run time conflicts — 3 web servers selected
• Hardware Advice — The Advice Engine provides advice based on the hardware the user chose for his work order. For example:
  • You chose wireless networking. You should add the package wireless-tools.
  • You have an MTD device. You should add the package mtd-utils.
• Board-Level Advice — This is advice shown that is dependent on the type of project the user chose.
  • You have an i.MX31. You should use package cool_imx31_utils.
